We are OPEN and the Chip & Pin arrived just in time wohoooo!
The doors opened at 09:30 and the chip & pin machine was delivered at 09:40. A quick install and test and 15 mins later we can take money!
It’s now 14:30 and the day has flown by with loads of happy customers and compliments about the shop and the things we have.
Chip & Pin machine comes today……yeah right!
Well the payment machine sort of arrived. After being promised it would be delivered to our shop address today nothing arrived and when I went home I found a DHL ’sorry we missed you” card. Why are some things so hard to do! Anyway, I decided to wait for the driver to arrive back in Redhill at 7pm and drive up to collect it myself so there is no chance of it going missing tomorrow.
I sign of the box and then open it up to find an old fashioned swipe card type thing and not a swanky new Chip & Pin machine at all Grrrrrrrrrr. A few phone calls later and I get nowhere so have to get back on the case first thing in the morning. The good news at least is that we can take cards but the olde way.
The other good news is we now have Broadband working!
Also got another delivery today so the shop is almost ready to open which is just as well by the amount of people who keep wandering in when the front door is open. They keep being politely told to return on Saturday with their wallets.

Its taking shape…..-4 days and counting
Its been a busy week in the lead up to the big opening day and it’s only Tuesday!
We now have a phone line but as soon as you plug in the BT Business Hub it cuts the line, after a typical phone call going through 5 departments each doing their own line checks it’s now with the fault team to sort out. My guess is I will end up with a new Business Hub but I have to go through all the usual “process checks” before they also come to that conclusion.
The all important Chip & Pin machine has been promised for delivery on Thursday so we will be able to take payment for things when we open which always helps!
Last delivery before we open is coming in Thursday so the plan is that if that all happens we will open “unofficially” on Friday as a bit of a trial run.
Oh and as you will see from some of the pics below the sign was also fitted yesterday but a problem with one of the dorma windows in the roof means the scaffolding will still be up when we open, a shame but there is nothing we can do about it.

Well this time next Saturday and we will be open for business….at least thats the plan! Still to come this week are the Phone line & Broadband, the Chip & Pin machine so that we can take the dosh and 2 big deliveries of furniture and accessories.
We made good progress this week and below you will see loads of before and after pictures from the time we took on the keys to what it looks like right now. Electrics were done and some more painting and it’s starting to resemble a shop now.

Before we start any work

The view from outside in the lovely village of Ditchling, West Sussex and the not so lovely scaffolding!

We open the shop on 11th July!!!!
Shop floor sanded and varnished, carpet down (after the guy finally decided to show up to fit it!), 4 transit van loads of accessories that have been cluttering up my garage, lounge, hallway and kids play room for the last 2 months and things are starting to happen.
Opening day is set for 11th July so we need to get move on.
Phone line and broadband is being activated on 6th July. The biggest worry (apart from the scaffolding still all over the shop front) is getting the chip and pin machine in time. If that doesnt come opening weekend could be interesting getting everyone to enter their card details directly into Sagepay online.
And on the subject of scaffolding, we still cant put the shop sign up until the work is complete so its gonna be tight.
All the big items from Coachhouse, Libra and Baumhaus are being delivered on Friday so that gives us a full 7 days to get ship shape for the opening……no pressure!
The lease is signed so theres no going back now!

Well we started out last June as on online shop selling shabby chic accessories and from that we have expanded to sell a huge range of furniture for the entire home. Not bad for a small start up company trying to make a go of it in the heart of the worst recession the entire World has been in this century!
So, since that all went swimmingly we thought it only right that we gave our lovely customers the chance to meet us in person and to see our fantastic products first hand so today signed away of lives and put pen to paper on a lease to our very first retail outlet.
This gives us 1 month until the lease formally starts, I hope to get my hands on the keys sooner than that so we get time to prepare but thats subject to the existing tenants moving out on time. Whatever happens its bound to be a big rush job with all hands to the pump in an attempt to get the place ready for business on 1st July.
Location is everything
The shop is in the picturesque village of Ditchling, East Sussex. Located right at the foot of the South Downs which is soon to become National Park we are taking on a place that for the past 20 years has been a successful Saddlery. Shops in these smaller villages through the Sussex area have bucked the trend that has seen larger town centers fail during these tough trading times. We hope that our products, passion and planning will make sure we also succeed.
